In years past, I've had really good luck giving stuff away on the "Free" section of Craigslist.
But in 2024, if your phone number shows up on Craigslist, you get a call from CBP phone scammers within a couple of hours.

I'd like my old internet back, please.
The whole "We're the police and we demand you assist us in this investigation" angle of this scam is lent credibility and support by the unaccountable and unprofessional habits and attitudes of real American law enforcement.
A scammer can call a stranger, say he's a cop, and behave like a pushy, entitled, belligerent prick -- and the victim will think "Oh, gosh, this person sounds _just_ like a cop."
If we had better cops, it would be harder to make this scam work.
